Rules and Regulations

General rules and information
  • Payment in full must be received with your entries by a Studio cheque. No posted cheques.
  • Every competition will have a limited number of entries accepted on a first come basis.
  • There is no limit of entries any one studio may enter, but dancers may not compete against themselves in any age division or category in the same dance form (e.g. If a performer has 2 jazz solo's they may perform one routine in the next age group up). Only groups you may be in the same category but not more then 50% can be the same dancers.
  • In order to qualify for overall awards a minimum of 5 group numbers must be entered by studio.
  • Bedazzled Dance Champions reserves the right to add or subtract days or move a competition due to unforeseen circumstances.
  • All award money is awarded to the studio Director!
  • A contestant making a second attempt to a routine may be adjudicated but no mark will be given and will not qualify for overall awards, except in the Novice division.
  • Only teachers can be back stage, in the wings or in the music area during the competition, all others will be asked to leave.
  • Prohibited -Video taping and photography of any kind, our events are a non ticketed open door show which means anyone can come and watch, therefore this is the reason that we DO NOT allow any photography or video taping of any sort, do to the safety of all dancers.  Also Prohibited are live animals and any routines that contain fire pyrotechnic devices, swords and knives, failure to comply with this policy could result in disqualification!

  • Bedazzled Dance Champions reserves the right to cancel any competition if enough entries are not received to run the competition.
  • By entering the competition, Parents, instructors, Directors, and contestants give their permission to Bedazzled dance champions to use their pictures and performance in advertisement (e.g. Brochures, programs, on our Website, etc.)
  • Bedazzled Dance Champions reserves the right to refuse individual or studio entries at their discretion, in which fees will be refunded. Refunds will not be made for any other reasons except for injuries (with a doctor’s note) in which a credit will be given to use at our Finals or a future Bedazzled Dance Champions Regional.
  • No smoking or eating in the competition area.
  • By entering Bedazzled Dance Champions you agree that all decisions of the judges are final, the manner and method of the judging is solely within the discretion of the Director of Bedazzled Dance Champions.
  • Upon entering Bedazzled Dance Champions competition, it is agreed that teachers, competitor's, parents, and relatives will not hold Bedazzled Dance Champions directors, employees and all involved in the competition responsible or liable for any damages, loss or personal injury which they may sustain while participating in any activity connected with this competition, no matter how caused, to either contestant or spectators.

 

Dance Categories
  • "NEW RULES"Pre-Competitive – The Pre - Competitive division is for dancer who dance 6 OR LESS hours a week this includes all rehearsal for additional choreography etc. Separate overalls will be awarded for this division. This applies to all members of a Solo, duet/trio or group. Any dancer dancing in the Pre-Competitive division is not eligible to dance in the competitive division with the exception of Production or an extended line which includes dancers of both divisions but does not dance more then 6 hrs a week. Any dancer found dancing in both divisions will result in disqualification to the routine.

  • High School Dance team – this category applies to High school dance teams, and only applies to groups, solos must be entered in regular categories.
  • Pro/Teacher – All Dancers graduated from High School who receives financial gain or compensation for classroom services of any type such as assisting, choreographing, or instructing must compete in this category. Only teachers who are still active on a competitive dance team within their studio are entitled to dance in a regular category. Dancers in this category are not eligible for overall awards. 
  • Novice entries - A novice contestant is a person who has never competed before in a competition. A novice group or line must be a minimum of 75% novice. A contestant may enter in a novice category as a solo, duet/trio, if they have never competed before in a solo, Duet / trio; if they have competed in a duet/Trio but never a Solo you may enter a solo as Novice. Entries must be 100% novice. The maximum age for Novice is 12 years. Novice entries are not eligible for overalls. Separate Novice overalls will be awarded.
  • Tap - Routines should contain tap technique, no prerecorded tap sounds should be in music. No acrobatics allowed. Illusions, front and back rolls are allowed, as well as partner lifts that may end up with partner’s feet over their heads!
  • Jazz - Routines should contain jazz technique. No acrobatics allowed. Illusions, front and back rolls are allowed, as well as partner lifts that may end up with partner’s feet over their heads!
  • Lyrical Jazz - Routine must tell the story of the music while demonstrating emotion, balance, extension, control and technique. No acrobatics allowed. Illusions, front and back rolls are allowed, as well as partner lifts that may end up with partner’s feet over their heads!
  • Hip Hop (street style dance) - Routines choreographed to contemporary music, using dance styles like, hip hop, funk, free-style or music video type dances.
  • Character Ballet - Performance must portray a recognizable character throughout and include classical steps and movements. No acrobatics allowed.
  • Ballet - Routines should contain ballet technique while incorporating classical movements. No acrobatics allowed.
  • *New* Contemporary/Modern - Routines that are interpretive using contemporary style dance, modern dance technique and movement with no limitation, while incorporating balance, control and extensions. No Acro tricks allowed.
  • Open* - Routines to contain any combination of dance, which do not fit into any of our other categories. A maximum of 5 Acro tricks allowed. E.g. a gymnastic line of 3 tricks is considered 3 of your tricks for that routine.
  • Musical Theatre/stage - A routine portraying a character throughout. Lip Synching is permitted. Any forms of dance are permitted.
  • Song and Dance – Routines must consist primarily of vocals and dance.
  • Vocal – Routines must consist primarily of vocals.
  • Acro - A routine using controlled moves such as walkovers, handstands, limbers etc. the routine must contain dance steps and choreography.
  • Production - A routine containing 15+ dancers incorporating any style of dance with a theme or story which is portrayed throughout the entire dance.
  • Acrobatics are defined as any 360 degree rotation when the performers feet are above their head. Illusions, front and back rolls are allowed, as well as partner lifts that may end up with partner’s feet over their heads!

 

Entry types
  • Solo's, duets/trio (2-3)
  • small groups (4 -9)
  • large groups (10 -16)
  • extended lines (17+)
  • Productions (12+) with a minimum of 4min. & a max. Of 12 min.

 

Time Limits/Delays
  • Solos, Duets/Trios 3 min. max.
  • Groups.3 min. 30sec. max.
  • Extended lines 4 min.  max.
  • Productions.4 - 12 minute max.
  • Adult Groups 3 min. max. Includes entrance and exits...
  • A penalty of 1 mark will be deducted from each judge for the following: routines
    exceeding times limits, and ** teachers putting routines on hold, please be sure to
    check the schedule thoroughly as program is sent out 3-4 weeks prior to competition
    date, conflicts with costumes etc. must bechanged ahead. Few exceptions will apply!!
Age divisions
  • 5 & under 6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16, ,17,18 + . Age entered as of Dec. 31st
    When calculating age groups, add all ages, divide by the number of performers and
    drop the decimal point.

Overall Awards
  • 1st, 2nd & 3rd place will be awarded in Mini, Junior, Intermediate & Senior age divisions.
  • **Please note that Acro and Musical Theatre/Song & Dance have separate Overalls
  • Highest Overall Solo’s (by age) If less then 3 entered in any one age group we reserve the right to combine an age category.
  • Highest Overall Duet/Trio - Mini, Junior, Intermediate, Senior
  • Highest Overall Small Group - Mini, Junior, Intermediate, Senior
  • Highest Overall Large Group - Mini, Junior, Intermediate, Senior
  • Highest Overall Extended Lines - Mini Junior, Intermediate, Senior
  • Highest Overall Novice - 7 & under, 8 -10 Years, 11 – 12 year Most potential Novice Dancer in each age division
  • Highest Overall Pre-Competitive - Mini (8 & under), Junior (9 – 11), Intermediate (12 – 14) & Senior (15 & over)“NEW” Most potential Pre-Competitive Dancer in each age division
  • Highest overall Production, with a minimum of 2 or more productions
  •  Highest Mark of the Competition
  • Adjudicator’s Choice Awards
  • Most potential Dancer (Mini, Junior, Intermediate & Senior)
  • Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Costume award, Most entertaining.
 
Adjudicated Scoring Systems
  • Silver - 76-79.99
  • High Silver - 80 - 84.99
  • Gold - 85 - 86.99
  • High Gold - 87 - 89.99
  • Emerald - 90 - 92.99
  • Diamond - 93 and over
